Growing up in a small town in Tennessee, Sally's childhood was filled with an array of conflicting emotions when it came to her best friend, Tracy Douglass. Running away to Asheville after high school was the only way that she could escape questioning her sexuality and living the life that she'd been raised to have. Although she left her snake-handling Pentecostal church behind, Sally still had a love of snakes, which no one could understand. 

Sally's best friends, Bonifa and Devon, continually reminded her that she was her own person and that she should be happy. A trip to a spiritual retreat gives Sally a spiritual attachment to a deceased loved one, which throws her life for a loop when she loses control of her body in stressful situations.
